Scented gardening un-leash the magic.

To me nothing beats a scented plant or a garden. I think the scent is what is so captivating often smelled before seen. Your nose can lead you on a treasure hunt in the garden looking for that elusive perfume, even to smelling the air and following the scent on a warm summer evening. Once detected an unusual and captivating scent in the garden few people can resist tracing it to its source.

Plants rich in that are scent will harbor a wide range of insects, butterflies and bees are especially attracted to sweet smelling flowers during the day, while moths will be attracted at night. You will also enjoy your garden more if you can smell it at night . So when your enjoying a drink on the patio or (deck) in the summer evenings, you can enjoy the warm musky air that is reminiscent of holidays you have had. Scented gardening is not hard and all you have to do is choose a few plants that will work well. Your Neighbors will be envious or certainly curious about the perfume coming from your garden.

The list below is a basket of fragrant plants for all parts of the garden. For all uses; and almost every month. From borders stuffed with summer flowering annuals, to fine rose beds the choice is almost endless and the variables un calculable. There are trees and shrubs with fragrant flowers and others with rich aromatic foliage or bark. You can create scent in the garden during all seasons of the year, in all places or situations. Pots stuffed with dianthus (clove pinks) and night scented stock can almost overwhelm you.

To get the most from scented plants place near the house, an area you sit by, near the front door and by the path you walk on each day. See our night garden for further inspiration. If your making a scented pat heres a quick plan. Line the path with lemon and ordinary thyme, and lavenders, you can try monarda and or mint. Plant lemon balm or Melissa into the cracks or into the ground where you walk. as you walk and brush past the lavender and thyme and step on the patches of lemon balm you will release scent.
